CD34+ Hematopoietic Stem Cells

Research with confidence. Solutions for stem cell research

Your research deserves a reliable source of cells to power it. Our CD34+ stem cells offer high purity and viability to enable a wide range of research applications, spanning from biologics discovery through immunophenotyping. Developed to support your research and development needs, our CD34+ stem cells can help advance your scientific breakthroughs.

CD34 is a transmembrane phosphoglycoprotein and an established marker of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. Our primary human CD34+ cells are isolated from cord blood using positive immunomagnetic techniques. Umbilical cord blood is collected using IRB protocols and/or in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements. Cord blood is collected in anticoagulant citrate phosphate dextrose.

Key features:

  • High purity: > 90% purity by flow cytometry
  • Robust viability: > 95% cell viability post thaw
  • Microbial and infectious disease testing (HIV-1, HIV-2, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C)
  • Certificate of Analysis included

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do cord-blood CD34+ cells differ from peripheral-blood or bone-marrow CD34+ cells?

CD34+ cells derived from umbilical cord blood (UCB) offer several advantages compared to those obtained from other sources of CD34+ cells including:

    • Rapid availability
    • More naïve/primitive than other sources
    • ten-fold great number in cord blood and on peripheral blood
    • Increased capacity for self-renewal
  • Which research applications are best suited for umbilical CD34+ stem cells?

    Potential research applications include:

    • Molecular genetics
    • Angiogenesis
    • Regenerative medicine
    • Immune diseases
    • Gene editing/CRISPR
    • Validating expansion technology
    • Cellular therapy research
  • What is the difference between CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs)?

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are rare self-renewing cells capable of long-term blood system reconstitution. Hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) are downstream descendants with more limited differentiation potential.

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) is the broader term used to describe the mixed CD34+ cell populations commonly used in transplantation, gene editing, and cell therapy research.

  • What markers define HSPCs?

Human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) are typically defined by CD34 expression and comprise a spectrum of stem and progenitor cell populations with varying degrees of self-renewal and differentiation capacity.

Phenotypic characterization using markers such as CD38, CD90, CD45RA, and CD49f allows further identification of primitive stem cell subsets.

In particular, CD34+CD38− cells are enriched for early hematopoietic progenitors, while the CD34+CD38−CD90+CD45RA− immunophenotype is widely recognized as a marker profile associated with long-term hematopoietic stem cells capable of sustained multilineage reconstitution following transplantation.
