Ras-related protein RAB8A is a member of the RAS superfamily, which consists of small GTP/GDP binding proteins. Small GTPases Rab are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, including the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with membranes. RAB8A is involved in polarized vesicular trafficking and neurotransmitter release. RAB8A is associated with selective autophagy. Rab8a is one of several Rab GTPases that are substrates of leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2), a serine/threonine kinase that is linked to Parkinson's disease.

The AlphaLISA SureFire Human and Mouse Phospho-RAB 8A (Thr72) Detection Kit is a sandwich immunoassay for the quantitative detection of phospho-RAB 8A (Thr72) in cellular lysates, using Alpha Technology.
